ToggleWhat if I told you that there was a guaranteed way to skyrocket your sales, and attract fans of your art that want to scream your praise from the hilltops?
Sounds too good to be true, right?
Well guess what – it’s totally true. And I can sum it up in two neat and tidy words: Email List.
(Ooh I just got goosebumps!)
An email list isn’t just a business tool – it’s one of the best business tools out there. It can transform you from a profitless painter that is totally over screaming your message into the void into a total Art Biz Boss, with crazy profits and adoring fans to match.
These are a few of the many reasons why YOU need to start an email list today.
Already convinced? Sign up for the 5 Day Email Lists for Artists Challenge and kickstart it with five whole days of valuable direction. You’ve got this!
1. Direct line to your audience, so you don’t lose them if social media platforms shut down or your account gets hacked
Picture this: grumbling your way through your second morning cup of joe, clicking that enticing little sunset-toned app icon and your feed is like your tolerance for early mornings – nowhere to be found.
Or you’re about to plague your begrudging friend with yet another “This is Fine” meme (spoiler alert: it is not fine) when you see you’ve been hacked.
Suddenly that beautiful little number on your profile is out of reach, those fans are as good as ghosts. Your audience is gone.
Now what?
Or what if you caught on the news that our dear Mr. Zuckerberg had a bad day and decided that Instagram and Facebook just weren’t a thing anymore. Now you have no contact with your followers.
Yeah, this sounds crazy but the crazier thing is that it can totally happen. Social media, like blue eyeshadow and jeggings, operate in trends and one of these days, again much like that god-awful blue eyeshadow and jeggings with painted-on pockets, will go out of style. Sometimes even quite suddenly.
Wouldn’t it be absolutely horrible to jeopardize your art business because all your eggs are in the metaphorical-social-media-basket?
This is where an email list absolutely SHINES like the light of a thousand suns. You own that list, and no one can take it away from you. It allows you to have a direct line of communication with your audience, and has a MUCH higher chance of being seen than social media to boot.
So unless you pride yourself on walking on the risky side of life, an email list is a wonderful security blanket against the changing tides of the internet. Plus, as you’ll find out in the next few paragraphs, email lists have SO many incredible benefits.
2. You will make WAY more sales, guaranteed
Here’s a tasty little statistical fact for you – the average ROI for email lists is over 4000%.
That means that for every $1 you pump into the system, on average you’ll get over $40 of profit back.
Are you still going to tell me that you don’t need email marketing?
People also expect sales-focused messages from email marketing, so they are far less likely to click away than they would be with social media. Why would they want to exit Instagram Fun Land to click on your not-as-fun “buy my stuff now” link? But trust me, most people are looking for any excuse to leap out of their email inbox, so give them a good reason to!
3. Allows you to capture the “I love your work but I can’t buy right now” people
Imagine you met someone that fell in love with your work, but was going through some financial issues at the time. They seemed genuinely upset that they couldn’t add a piece of yours to their collection at that time.
Imagine you met Carol at an art show. Carol absolutely fell in love with the way that you pair colors in your paintings to signify the duality of emotions, but Carol was also undergoing an expensive divorce that left her clutching onto each and every dollar until her life stopped trying to sink her. You could see it pained her to leave that beautiful painting behind, she even described to you exactly where she would put it in her new pad.
Would you let Carol get away?
With an email list you can stay in contact with the Carols that you meet, and you can further nurture that relationship until they are ready to buy. Chances are they will even reward you over and over, practically shoving fistfuls of cash into your waiting hands in exchange for your beautiful things.
Even take a look at those sitting on the fence – you might just need a bit of time in their ear to convince them that they need your artwork in the same way they need that big fancy car or that $8 fair-trade-.
4. You can nurture your past customers so they will buy from you over and over
When you break down costs over time, it is much more cost-effective to nurture existing customers, as they will likely reward you with their hard-earned cash again and again over time, rather only seeking for new customers. You can speak with them regularly and continue to serve them over time, perhaps even developing a VIP-style treatment around them so they truly feel valued.
So by now you should be 100% convinced that you need an email list of your own 😉
